Notes & Things

a small place for occasional writing

On keeping a slower pace

I've been trying to spend less time reacting to things and more time just sitting with a problem before writing anything down. It's strange how much clearer a thought becomes once you stop trying to finish it quickly. Most of what I write here never gets published — it just sits in a folder until I'm sure it's worth keeping.

A short list of things that held up well

Every so often I go back through old notes and see what's still true. Most of it isn't, which is fine. The interesting part is noticing which ideas survived contact with reality and which ones quietly dissolved the moment they were tested.

Small tools, used often

There's a particular kind of satisfaction in a tool that does one thing reliably. Lately I've been paring down the things I use daily to the smallest set that still covers everything I actually need, and getting rid of the rest.

Some days the only honest thing to write is that nothing in particular happened, and that this is, on balance, fine.
